John Wall, Derrick Favors Lead Preseason High School Basketball All-American Team by YourFindit

by Kyle "Scoop" Yeldell

John Wall and Derrick Favors lead the 2008-09 Preseason High School Basketball All-American Team by YourFindit.com.

Wall, the nation’s top point guard, and Favors, the nation’s top big man, leads the five-man team of all-Americans. Both have been ranked No. 1 by several recruiting services as Wall tops the Rivals.com list, while Favors was the top man on ESPNU’s Top 100 until recently. Fellow All-American Xavier Henry is now No. 1, while Favors is No. 2.

Wall, the 6-foot-3, 184-pound point guard out of Raleigh (N.C.) Word of God Christian Academy, averaged 18 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds last season. He is selecting between Memphis, Baylor, Miami and N.C. State for his college choice.

Favors, the 6-foot-9, 220-pound power forward/center, averaged 23.7 points, 17.1 rebounds and 9.1 blocked shots for South Atlanta (GA). In a game in the Bojangles Invitational, Favors had 42 points, 20 rebounds and 12 blocks. Georgia Tech, Georgia and N.C. State are among the suitors for Favors’ services next season.

Wall is joined in the backcourt by the nation’s top three shooting guards: Xavier Henry, Kenny Boynton and Lance Stephenson. Henry, the 6-foot-6, 225-pound athlete from Putnam City (Oklahoma City, OK), averaged 26.7 points and 7.2 rebounds last season. Boynton, the 6-foot-2, 187-pound scoring dynamo from American Heritage (Plantation, FL), averaged 32.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.5 steals per contest last season.

Stephenson has been one of the most hyped high school players in the nation since middle school. He led Lincoln (Brooklyn, NY) to its third consecutive PSAL title and second straight state title, while averaging 23.3 points and 7.3 rebounds a game. Stephenson was the only underclassmen on the USA Today All-America First Team last season.

While Boynton committed to play for the Florida Gators on Thursday, Henry and Stephenson are both undecided. Henry has narrowed his list down to Kansas and Memphis, while Stephenson, the 6-foot-6, 195-pound point forward, is selecting between St. John’s, Kansas, Memphis, USC and UCLA, amongst others.

All five players are considered locks for the McDonald's All-American Game, the nation's premier high school basketball all-American game. The game will be played at the BankUnited Center at the University of Miami on April 1, 2009.
