William Walsh Confesses to Killing Wife, NY Teacher Leah Walsh

Authorities said Friday that William Walsh has confessed to murdering his wife, New York teacher Leah Walsh. Police say that William says he strangled his wife during a violent fight over his alleged infidelity and then dumped her body as he staged her death to look like she was the victim of a random roadside attack.

Detectives believe that William killed Leah, 29, Sunday after returning from a trip to Atlantic City, New Jersey. After strangling Leah, he washed his clothes at a coin laundry, ate at McDonalds and did “some various other things that he thought could substantiate his alibi.”

William then loaded his wife’s body into her car and drove her to the Long Island Expressway, where he let the air out of her front tire to make it appear as if the car broke down. He dumped Leah’s body in an embankment 50 feet from the expressway and walked home. William returned a short time later and threw Leah’s purse in a nearby ditch.

A driver in a state Transportation Department Vehicle saw William leaving the scene. Around the same time, William used his wife’s cell phone to text himself the message, “Have a great day. Love you bunches. Mwah.”

Leah was reported missing Monday after she did not show up to work. Her car was found and a search was launched. Her body was found two days later and hours later, William confessed.

He is being held without bail and pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder despite his confession. Walsh’s attorney says that police made “a rush to judgment” and insists that his client is innocent.

Lt. John Azzata says that police do not believe that the murder was intention. Azzata says the killing was “impulsive…it was a domestic situation gone extremely bad.”
