Libya Pays Out Compensation to Relatives of U.S. Victims in Lockerbie Bombing and Berlin Attack

Libya has paid $1.5 billion into a compensation fund designed to settle lawsuits filed by relatives of U.S. victims of terrorist attacks attributed to the North African country. The fund will pay out money to families of victims in the 1988 Lockerbie bombing that killed 270 people, the 1986 Berlin disco bombing that killed three and injured more than 200 and the 1989 bombing of a French airline over Chad.

The payment was part of a deal struck with the U.S. back in August which outlined plans for the U.S. to pay $300 million to relatives of victims in an airstrike that followed the Berlin bombing.

As part of the deal Libya agreed to compensate the victims but did not have to accept responsibility for the attacks.
