Black Swan gets Writers Guild of America nomination

'Black Swan' and 'The Fighter' are among the films nominated for the Writers Guild of America Awards.

The two films - both of which have been highlighted for success at the forthcoming Oscars - have made it into the Best Original Screenplay category, alongside Christopher Nolan's 'Inception' and 'The Kids Are All Right', written by Lisa Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg.

Nicole Holofcener's 'Please Give' - about a couple who have troublesome neighbours - rounds off the list.

Among the surprise omissions from the shortlist are highly-praised films 'Winter's Bone' and 'The King's Speech', both of which did not make the final cut because of strict rules about submission for the awards.

In the Best Adapted Screenplay Category are critically-acclaimed movies '127 Hours' - featuring James Franco as self-amputee Aron Ralston - and Facebook Movie 'The Social Network'.

Simon Beaufoy, who wrote '127 Hours' with British director Danny Boyle, joked it was difficult to please fellow scriptwriters so he was particularly pleased with the nomination.

He said: "As all writers know, the hardest crowd to please are one's fellow scribes. They know where you took coffee breaks, stole the jokes and where the bodies - or in this case, the hand - are buried.

"So it is a genuine honour to be nominated by the Writer's Guild of America."

Gay comedy drama 'I Love You Phillip Morris' - starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor - has also been nominated, with the list rounded off by Ben Affleck's 'The Town' and the remake of classic movie 'True Grit'.

The awards will be given at ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York on February 5.
