Big Brother top of the shockers

'Big Brother' received more complaints than any other TV show in the past decade.

The Channel 4 reality show - fronted by Davina McCall - topped Ofcom's list of viewer complaints, after 57,000 fans contacted the body to express their distaste at the show throughout its ten-year run, which came to an end last summer.

More than 40,000 viewers complained to the communications watchdog over 2007's 'Celebrity Big Brother', in which the late Jade Goody was accused of bullying Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty.

Meanwhile, despite the 2010 series of 'The X Factor' - which ranked in second place - being one of the most controversial ever, 'Big Brother' received more than five times the number of complaints of the ITV1 talent show.

An Ofcom spokesman told the Daily Star newspaper: "With shows like 'Big Brother' and 'The X Factor', people are being asked to phone in and contribute.

"When a viewer feels aggrieved with the show they've been asked to have a hand in, perhaps they feel a greater sense of injustice."

However, music mogul Simon Cowell recently admitted he welcomes controversy on 'The X Factor' as he thinks it makes the show more "interesting".

He said: "I've loved it. I think it's been controversial, interesting, unexpected. Fans like the changes and the twists. I would never want to make the same show as I've made before."
