Jordan's Prince Ali bin Al Hussein has become the vice-president of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA)
The royal unseated South Korean Chung Mong-Joon - the major shareholder of Hyundai Heavy Industries - for the job, which he had held since 1994.
Speaking ahead of the vote he said: "There has been a lot of division within Asian football and I want to bring a unity.
"It's a very big continent and too much of the time too many people in the game have been left to themselves. I want to change this - and I think people understand my vision."
Queen Rania of Jordan tweeted her support for Prince Ali, saying it was a great event for the Arab world.
She said: "Congratulations to Prince Ali! So proud he's #FIFA's new Vice President. A great goal for the Arab world.(sic)"
He won in a vote held by the Asian Football Confederation's 45 eligible members, and at 35 becomes the youngest member of the FIFA executive committee.
Prince Ali has long been involved in football in his home country, having presided over the domestic soccer federation and was also involved in the West Asian Football Federation.
