Bali Bombers Placed in Isolation, Execution Nears

The three Indonesian men convicted of planning the deadly Bali bombings that killed more than 200 people in 2002 have been placed in isolation and are expected to be executed soon.

Imam Samudra, Ali Ghufron and Amrozi Nurhasyim were sentenced to death five years ago for the two attacks in a tourist district in Bali. The three men claimed they were defending Islamic values when they planted bombs in the two nightclubs in the Kuta district.

Indonesian government officials have said the men would be executed in early November. In October the Constitutional Court rejected the bombers’ request to die by beheading; they will instead face a firing squad.
