AP Top 25 College Football Scores: #22 Michigan State Knocks Off Wisconsin Badgers with Last Second Field Goal

Brian Hoyer threw for 252 yards, Blair White had 164 yards receiving, Jevon Ringer rushed for a pair of touchdowns and Brett Swenson kicked four field goals, the final one a 44-yarder with 7 seconds left on the clock to lift the #22 Michigan State Spartans (8-2, 5-1) past the Wisconsin Badgers (4-5, 1-5) 25-24 in Big Ten action on Saturday.

Wisconsin jumped to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 1-yard touchdown toss from Dustin Sherer to Garrett Graham but Swenson booted a pair of field goals in the second quarter to bring the Spartans to within 7-6. With seven seconds left in the first half Philip Welch kicked a 31-yard field goal to give the Badgers a 10-6 lead at the break.

P.J. Hill pushed Wisconsin’s lead to 17-6 in the third quarter on a 10-yard run but Ringer countered for the Spartans with a 2-yard run to keep Michigan State in the game.

In the fourth quarter John Clay found a hole and went 32-yard for a touchdown to give Wisconsin what looked to a solid lead at 24-13. Ringer than found the endzone for a second time but the Spartans two-point attempt failed to leave the score at 24-19.

The Spartans defense then stepped up and shut down the Badgers and Swenson pulled Michigan State to within 24-22 with a 50-yard field goal with just over five minutes left in the game and then he won the game with the 44-yarder.

Michigan State will host Purdue next week while Wisconsin takes on Indiana.
