American Woman Arrested in Iran for Spying

Talayan was trying to enter Iran from Armenia without a visa when she was arrested by Iranian customs agents. Authorities have accused Talayan of hiding spy equipment in her teeth. The alleged equipment included a microphone in her mouth. Talayan reportedly pleaded with the customs agents to not force her to return to Armenia because security forces would kill her.

Talayan was arrested in the city of Norduz, which is about 350 miles northwest of Tehran. ABC news reports U.S. officials have asked the Swiss Embassy in Tehran to look in to the woman’s arrest. The United States does not have diplomats in Iran.
