Iranian Authorities Deny Reports American Was Arrested

Iranian authorities are denying reports an American woman was arrested after customs agents found espionage equipment fitted in her teeth. Earlier on Thursday Iran new agencies reported a 55-year-old woman they identified as Hall Talayan was arrested by customs agents while trying to get into Iran from Armenia. The woman was allegedly accused of being a spy.

Citing an insider, Iran’s state-run TV Al Alam now reports the woman, who they identify as Hal Talian, was not arrested and is currently in Armenia because she did not obtain an entry visa.

ABC News reported United States officials asked the Swiss Embassy, which represents Americans in Iran, to look into the incident. State Department spokesman Mark Toner said officials are trying to determine what happened through talking with Armenian authorities and the Swiss Embassy.

"There are lots of conflicting reports swirling about. We're reached out through our Swiss protectorate to try to ascertain the facts surrounding this incident,” said Toner.
