AP Top 25 College Football Scores: #6 Texas Tech Stuns #1 Texas Longhorns With Last Minute Drive

Graham Harrell threw for 474 yards and a pair of touchdowns, Edward Britton had 139 yards receiving on seven catches and Michael Crabtree had 127 yards on ten catches and the game-winning touchdown with one second left on the clock as the #6 Texas Tech Red Raiders (9-0, 5-0) stunned the #1 Texas Longhorns (8-1, 4-1) with a 39-33 last-minute victory on Saturday night.

The Red Raiders jumped to a 12-0 in the first quarter as they collected a safety, Matt Williams kicked a 29-yard field goal and Baron Batch scored on a 3-yard run. That lead was boosted to 19-0 early in the second quarter when Harrell hit Eric Morris on an 18-yard touchdown pass and the Longhorns looked stunned.

Texas finally got on the board midway through the second with a 43-yard field goal from Hunter Lawrence but Williams connected from 31-yards out to give Texas Tech a 22-3 lead with 1:27 left in the half. Colt McCoy managed to lead the Longhorns down the field in the closing minute and Texas settled for Lawrence’s second field goal of the quarter.

It was the Longhorns special teams that provided the first touchdown as Jordan Shipley returned a Red Raiders punt back 45-yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter to pull Texas to within 22-13. Texas then forced a Red Raiders punt and McCoy was back under center but the Heisman Trophy candidate tossed a quick interception and Daniel Charbonnet returned it 18-yards for a touchdown and a 29-13 advantage.

McCoy made up for the interception late in the quarter when he hit Malcolm Williams on a 37-yard touchdown pass but the two-point conversion failed and the score was 29-19 heading into the fourth quarter.

It was McCoy and Williams that provided the next score as well as the pair hooked up on a 91-yard touchdown to Texas within 29-26. Texas Tech managed to stop the bleeding with a 42-yard field goal from Donnie Carona with 5:45 left on the clock to give the Red Raiders a 32-26 advantage.

Determined to keep their #1 ranking the Longhorns put together an 80-yard drive that was capped by a 4-yard TD run from Vondrell McGee and Texas had their first lead of the game, 33-32, with 1:29 remaining in the game.

That 1:29 was one second more than the Red Raiders would need as Harrell moved the squad down the field with quick tosses and then hit Crabtree on the sideline and he broke a tackle and crossed the goal line just before the clock hit zeroes.

Texas Tech will be facing Oklahoma State next week while Texas takes on Baylor.
