Boeing Machinists End Eight-Week Strike, Return to Work

Machinists working at aircraft manufacturer Boeing have needed their eight-week strike and agreed to return to work following a vote on a new four-year deal that would reportedly protect jobs and wages

Boeing was said to have lost nearly $100 million a day as the union-backed machinists refused to work under conditions that left many facing uncertainty about job security and pay increases.

Despite the current economic climate Boeing was enjoying continued financial success up until the strike. Following the announcement of the machinist strike the company saw its plans for their new 787 airliner delayed and difficulty filling orders for their commercial jets.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, the union representing the Boeing machinists, said the new agreement would protect more than 5,000 jobs.
