USA Today Top 25 Poll College Football Week 10: Alabama Crimson Tide New #1, Penn State Inches to #2 in Latest Rankings
The USA Today Top 25 poll for week 10 has been shuffled a bit after Saturday’s college football action in which the top ranked Texas Longhorns fell to then #5 Texas Tech in the final minutes. That Red Raiders victory pushed the Alabama Crimson Tide up one spot to assume the #1 ranking for the first time this season while Joe Paterno’s Penn State Nittany Lions took a week off and still moved up to #2 in the poll.
Voters rewarded the Red Raiders with a two-spot jump to #3 but they’ll keep moving up if they find a way to knock off Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and then win the Big 12 Championship game.
That won’t be an easy task as the Oklahoma Sooners remain #4 in the USA Today Top 25 after embarrassing the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday and they still have an outside shot at a Big 12 championship run.
The SEC picture got a bit clearer on Saturday as the Florida Gators got their revenge from a year ago as they blasted the Georgia Bulldogs to move up two spots to #5 while sending their rival tumbling to #14 in this week’s poll.
For USC the road to a BCS title will be tough as they have little on their schedule that would indicate they deserve a spot in the big game. Shutting out a winless Washington squad did nothing for them in the rankings as they remain #6.
Texas fell six spots to #7 this week after their road loss to Texas Tech and without some help their incredible season won’t include a BCS title berth.
