Insider Denies John Edwards and Rielle Hunter Are Engaged

An Edwards family insider tells People magazine that reports of John Edwards proposing to Rielle Hunter are untrue. The National Enquirer reported this week that Edwards popped the question in December just three weeks after the death of his estranged wife Elizabeth Edwards.

"It's not true," the insider tells People.

Another source says Edwards and Hunter’s relationship is not romantic; they only remain in touch to discuss their 2-year-old daughter Frances Quinn. "The nature of the relationship, as far as I know, is one of a father calling the mother and talking about Quinn, figuring out the holiday schedule," the source says.

Edwards, 57, has not commented.
