Connecticut were selected as the preseason favorite to win the Big East Conference, earning nine first place votes and 214 points total.
The Huskies return Hasheem Thabeet, the 2007-08 Big East Defensive Player of the Year, and A.J. Price, who was named to the All-Big East First Team. Both players were selected to the preseason All-Big East First Team.
UConn, Louisville, Pittsburgh and Notre Dame each received first-place votes. Louisville and Pitt, which had three first-place votes apiece, finished with 205 and 200 points, respectively. Notre Dame received one first-place vote and was fourth with 195 points.
Villanova was fifth with 153 points, followed by Marquette (146), Georgetown (141) and Syracuse (139). West Virginia was picked ninth with 121 points, followed by Providence (99 points) in 10th and Cincinnati (91 points) in 11th place.
Notre Dame forward Luke Harangody was selected as the preseason Big East Player of the Year and was unanimously picked for the All-Big East First Team. Last season, Harangody became the second player in Big East history to lead the league in both scoring (23.3) and rebounding (11.3) in 16 conference outings. Overall, he averaged 20.4 points and 10.6 boards.
Harangody was one of two unanimously selected players on the All-Big East First Team with Pittsburgh's Sam Young.
Harangody joined by teammate Kyle McAlarney on the All-Big East First Team, along with Pitt's Young and UConn's duo of Thabeet and Price. They are amongst a 10-man team that includes Deonta Vaughn (Cincinnati), DaJuan Summers (Georgetown), Terrence Williams (Louisville), Jerel McNeal (Marquette), Jonny Flynn (Syracuse) and Scottie Reynolds (Villanova).
Georgetown freshman forward Greg Monroe and Louisville freshman forward Samardo Samuels were selected as the Big East Co-Rookies of the Year.
