He’ll be coming from behind on election day. 57 of the voters PPP surveyed reported having voted early, and within that group Obama is leading 52-47. McCain has a 54-43 advantage with those planning to vote on election day itself.Obama is polling just short of 30% with white voters, a threshold he would likely have to cross if he were to get over the top in the state.
“There are two major things to look at in Georgia tomorrow,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “The first is whether the Republican turnout effort is strong enough to offset the advantage Obama has built among early voters. The second is whether Obama can win over the last few white voters he needs to beat out McCain.”
Former Georgia Congressman Bob Barr is mostly a non factor even in his home state, winning just 2% of the vote.
Georgia’s US Senate race continues to look like it’s headed for a possible runoff. Incumbent Republican Saxby Chambliss is at 48% with challenger Jim Martin just behind him at 46%. The 4% Libertarian nominee Allen Buckley is pulling could push this election on for another month.
