Obama has lost ground particularly among white voters. A week ago he trailed just 49- 46 with them but now McCain has increased his lead within that demographic to 55-43.McCain has also tightened the race among independent voters. What was a 48-36 Obama lead a week ago is now just a 49-46 advantage.
“The undecideds are moving in John McCain’s direction in Ohio, and the state could definitely go either way on election day,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “The reality though is that Ohio in 2008 is not what Ohio in 2000 or 2004 was for the Democrats. Their path to victory does not necessarily go through Ohio. Winning the state may be more icing on the cake than absolute necessity for Barack Obama.”
Obama’s lead in the state is being fueled largely by a 64-35 advantage with voters under 30. Obama also has a 65-34 lead among those who have already voted.
In the election to choose Ohio’s next Attorney General Democrat Richard Cordray holds a 50-38 lead.
