Iran Deports American Woman Detained Over Spy Devices

Iranian media reported over the weekend that the American woman detained in the border town of Nordouz last week has been deported. The Fars New Agency reports 55-year-old Hall Talayan lied to border agents when she told them she had espionage equipment embedded in her teeth. After an evaluation, it was determined Talayan suffers from psychological problems.

"This woman claimed to have spying devices in her teeth and surrendered herself to the Iranian border guards," a source told the Fars News Agency. "But further investigations revealed that she had psychological problems and her claims about being a spy and carrying spying devices were not true."

There have been conflicting reports on Talayan’s arrest. Last week Iranian officials claimed Talayan attempted to enter Iran from Armenia. Authorities said she was denied entry because she did not have a visa. According to the head of Armenia’s National Security Service press center, a person by the name of Hall Talayan has never entered Armenia.

The U.S. state department has asked the Swiss Embassy, which represents United States interests in Iran, to obtain more information on Talayan’s arrest.
