Michelle Pfeiffer signs up Welcome to People

Michelle Pfeiffer has joined the cast of 'Welcome to People'.

The 'Stardust' actress will join a cast including Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks and Olivia Wilde for the drama about an estranged son who delivers $150,000 to an alcoholic sister he didn't know he had following the death of his father.

Michelle is set to play the role of Chris' character's widowed mother in the movie, the directorial debut of 'Star Trek' screenwriter Alex Kurtzman.

As well as directing the movie, Kurtzman will also produce alongside Robert Orci - both of whom wrote the script with Jody Lambert.

Previous rumours have hinted both Meryl Streep and Rachel McAdams may have a role in the project.

Michelle - who has not made a movie since 2009's 'Personal Effects' - is currently filming 'New Year's Eve', set for release in 2011.

The Garry Marshall film - a follow up to 'Valentine's Day' - will follow the lives of several couples and singles in New York as they intertwine over the course of New Year's Eve and star Robert De Niro, Ashton Kutcher and Zac Efron.
