Ben & Jerry's Offering Free Ice Cream to Voters on 2008 Election Day

Ben & Jerry's Homemade Holdings, the famous ice cream franchise, is offering Election Day voters free ice cream on Tuesday.

Ben & Jerry's are offering a free scoop of ice cream at all their stores across the country, between 5 and 8 pm local time on Election Day.

Ben and Jerry's is offering the promotion in hopes to get more people to go out and vote on Election Day, Tuesday, November 4, 2008.

"Democracy has never tasted so sweet" is the slogan for this year's free Ben and Jerry's for voting campaign.

During the primaries, Ben & Jerry's founders endorsed Sen. Barack Obama and donated two "ObamaMobiles" to his campaign to drive around the state and give away scoops of "Cherries for Change" ice cream.

Ben & Jerry's is not the only franchise that is offering voters freebies on Election Day. Starbucks (NASDAQ: SBUX), Krispy Kreme Doughnuts (NYSE: KKD), Chick-Fil-A, California Tortilla and Shane's Rib Shack are amongst the companies joining in.

Starbucks is offering customers a free cup of coffee if they voted on Election Day, while Krispy Kreme is offering voters a free star-shaped donut.

Chick-Fil-A's voting promotion includes giving coupons for free chicken tenders, sandwiches and milkshakes to participants that wear an "I Voted" sticker into their establishment.

California Tortilla is giving out free Mexican food to voters, while Shane's Rib Shack is offering one free "Celebrate America Meal" will be offered to the first 300 customers at participating locations. The "Celebrate America Meal" includes Shane's hand-breaded chicken tenders (a 3-piece meal), fries and a 20oz drink
