Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai Claims 40 Killed in U.S. Air Strike

A U.S. air strike in Afghanistan’s Kandahar province has left 40 people dead many of whom were civilians attending a wedding party in the area according to President Hamid Karzai.

According to reports a Taliban insurgent had fired on international troops and after returning fire the troops called for air support. That missile strike hit the wedding party and left several women and children dead.

Civilian casualties resulting from coalition forces has been heavily protested by the Afghan people and Karzai addressed the issue when speaking to reporters after the most recent strike.  Karzai spoke directlt to new president-elect Barack Obama when he stated, “My first demand from the US president, when he takes office, would be to end civilian casualties in Afghanistan and take the war to places where there are terrorist nests and training centers.”
