Electric shoes

A Chinese farmer has spent over $15,000 inventing a pair of electric shoes which enable the wearer to run more than 100 miles per day.

Zhao Xueqin, of Wugang, Henan province was inspired to create the shoes - essentially battery-powered roller skates with headlights, indicators, brakes and brake lights -after seeing how the children in his rural village struggled to walk long distances to school every day.

He said: "My hometown is a mountainous village. The nearest school is more than 20km away from our village, and kids have to get up each morning at 3am, walking three to four hours to arrive at school".

"I was thinking that it would be great if I could invent a pair of shoes which could do the running for the kids."
