Casey Anthony, the mother of missing three-year-old Caylee Anthony, will be in court to face first-degree murder charges ahead of a case in which she is charged with check fraud. A Florida judge ruled that Anthony’s fraud case would be delayed until after her murder case was decided.
According to Orange County Circuit Judge Stan Strickland, “Judicial economy may be best served by hearing the murder case first.” Prosecutors wanted Anthony to face the fraud charges first
The 22-year-old Casey Anthony has been charged with the death of Caylee Anthony who disappeared in June, two months shy of her third birthday. Caylee wasn’t reported missing until July at which time Casey Anthony told investigators she had dropped her daughter off with a babysitter and when she returned both were gone.
Investigators determined her story was a lie and quickly turned their attention to her. It was later discovered that DNA evidence pointed to human decomposition in the trunk of a car driven by Casey as well as hair samples that came from Caylee Anthony.
Casey Anthony is set to stand trial in January for first-degree murder.
