U.S. President George Bush and President-elect Barack Obama will meet next week to discuss several key issues that the Democratic president will face when he is sworn into office on January 20.
Speaking from the White House on Thursday Bush said he would do whatever he could to ensure a smooth transition and said he would tell government officials "to brief the Obama team on ongoing policy issues, ranging from the financial markets to the war in Iraq."
Bush also stated, “I look forward to discussing those issues with the president-elect early next week.” He also stated that members of Obama’s transition team were in the process of being given security clearance and that Obama had already begun receiving classified information and security briefings.
Obama did get news on Thursday that Rahm Emanuel would accept his offer of chief-of-staff, a key position that will deal with the internal management of Obama’s new administration.
