Jay Cutler was 24/42 passing for 447 yards and three touchdowns, Eddie Royal had six catches for 164 yards and a TD and Brandon Marshall had 89 yards receiving and the game-winning touchdown as the Denver Broncos (5-4) overcame a 13-point deficit to drop the Cleveland Browns (3-6) 34-30 on Thursday night.
In his first NFL start Browns QB Brady Quinn looked strong as he tossed a pair of touchdown passes to Kellen Winslow in the first half and Cleveland held a 20-10 advantage at the half.
That lead was extended to 23-10 early in the third quarter when Phil Dawson kicked a 33-yard field goal but matt Prater answered for the Broncos later in the quarter to cut the Denver deficit to ten heading into the fourth quarter.
After forcing the Browns to punt the Broncos took over on their own seven-yard-line and on first down Cutler hooked up with Royal on a 93-yard touchdown and Denver pulled to within 23-20. Denver’s defense then stepped up and forced Winslow to fumble on Cleveland’s next possession and Cutler made the Browns pay as he hit Daniel Graham on a 28-yard touchdown pass and Denver had the lead 28-23.
Quinn managed to lead the Brown back down the field and Jamal Lewis pounded it in from a yard out to reclaim the lead for Cleveland with 4:57 left on the clock. Unfortunately for Cleveland that was plenty of time for Cutler and he eventually hit Marshall on an 11-yard toss with 1:14 left in the game.
Cleveland had one more shot but Quinn’s fourth down pass to Winslow fell to the ground and Denver snapped their three game losing streak while the Browns suffered their second straight home loss.
