A cat has received a summons to do jury duty in the US.
The pet - named Sal - was called after owner Anna Esposito put its name in the wrong section of a census form.
She has now filed for his disqualification from the job on the grounds he is "unable to speak and understand English".
She added: "When they ask him guilty or not guilty, what's he supposed to say - meow?"
However, a website for the US judicial system states that jurors are "not expected to speak perfect English".
