The Philippines national disaster agency reports at least 51 people have died in floods and landslides across the country. The nation has been battered by heavy rains since December 29 when a monsoon and cold from clashed. The rain eventually caused severe flooding and numerous landslides in 25 provinces.
An estimated $9.5 million worth of agriculture, buildings and other properties have been damaged. Authorities say more than 500 homes have been completely destroyed while 2,000 others have moderate damage. In all, about 1.6 million people have been affected by the disaster. At least 12 people remain missing.
Officials have warned that the trouble may not be over as more rain is predicted for this week.
