AP Top 25 College Football Big Ten Schedule: #3 Penn State Nittany Lions Look to Stay Perfect in Matchup Against Iowa Hawkeyes

There’s not much the #3 Penn State Nittany Lions (9-0, 5-0) can do about their #3 ranking in the BCS other than take care of business and on Saturday that comes in the form of the Iowa Hawkeyes (5-4, 2-3) in a Big 12 showdown.

Penn State has done nothing but win this year but they have been hurt by a schedule that doesn’t quite match-up with the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide or the #2 Texas Tech Red Raiders. That may still work to their advantage though as many believe either or both of those schools could fall before the end of the year.

The Nittany Lions feature the nation’s #8 scoring offense in the country with an average of 41.8 points per game. That offense is headed up by quarterback Daryll Clark who is as deadly with his legs as he is with his arm. The junior QB has tossed 11 TDs this year and has added another 8 rushing touchdowns to his tally. Penn State has plenty of running power as sophomore Evan Royster averages 107.78 per game and has scored ten touchdowns on the year.

It is the running game of Penn State, ranked #11 in the country with 225.78 yards per game, that will be key on Saturday as the Hawkeyes have the country’s #12 rushing defense, allowing 100.67 yards per game.

Penn State has history on their side the rest of the way as head coach Joe Paterno has put together undefeated seasons in every decade since the 1960s, the Nittany Lions have yet to accomplish the feat in the new millennium.
