Authorities in Madrid, Spain announced Tuesday they have arrested 25 people suspected of running a cocaine lab located on a farm in the village of Villanueva de Perales. Police began investigating the drug ring two years ago.
Among the items confiscated in the bust were 660 pounds of cocaine, $2.6 million in cash, weapons, luxury cars and $66 million worth of assets linked to the ring. Police described the facility as the “largest and most sophisticated cocaine laboratory” in Europe.
The cocaine was brought in to Spain in shipping containers of coffee. The suspects included Spainards and Colombians. Several of them are lawyers who laundered the drug money.
Additional details on the case will be released in a press conference scheduled for Tuesday.
