Paul the octopus to be honoured in Germany

The late Paul the octopus is to get his own shrine at the aquarium he lived at in Germany.

The 'psychic' cephalopod became a celebrity during last year's soccer World Cup in South Africa when he successfully predicted the result of every Germany game and the final between Holland and Spain.

Sadly, Paul passed away three months ago but on Thursday (18.01.11) he will be honoured with a 'Paul Corner' at the Sea Life Centre in Oberhausen which will contain his ashes and a statue of him.

Spokeswoman Tanja Munzig said: "There will be a statue around 1.8 metres high of Paul on top of a football, in the middle of which will be a see-through window with the golden urn containing Paul's ashes."

During the summer, two clear boxes each containing a mussel and the flag of the competing teams were lowered into Paul's tank and he would swim over to a box and whichever one he chose would be deemed the winner.

Although he found fame in Germany, Paul was a common octopus from Weymouth, England.
