An attack on a police recruitment center in northern Iraq on Tuesday left 60 people dead and 150 others injured. Tikrit police say a suicide bomber detonated an explosive laden vest in a crowd of hundreds of men waiting to enter the center.
About 300 men were waiting outside the center at the time of the attack. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but local authorities blamed al-Qaida.
Many of the wounded her taken to hospitals outside of Tikrit as the city’s hospital struggled to deal with all of the wounded. Mosques were urging people to donate blood at the hospitals.
