Death Toll in Haiti School Collapse Rises to 75, Search Continues for Survivors

Rescue workers digging through the rubble of what once was a three-story school in Port-au-Prince found the bodies of 17 students inside a classroom pushing the death toll to 75 following Friday’s afternoon collapse at the La Promesse College.

The collapse of the school was being blamed on poor construction and in particular the failure to use reinforced steel when building the school.

La Promesse College is located in the Port-au-Prince suburb of Petionville and had about 700 students enrolled.
