AP Top 25 College Football Scores: #14 Georgia Bulldogs Fight Off Upset-Minded Kentucky Wildcats in SEC Battle

Matt Stafford was 17/27 for 376 yards and three touchdowns, Knowshon Moreno rushed for 123 yards and three TDs and Mohamed Massaquoi had 191 yards receiving and a score as the #14 Georgia Bulldogs (8-2, 5-2) used a late score to hold off the Kentucky Wildcats (6-4, 2-4) 42-38 in SEC action on Saturday.

The Bulldogs jumped to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter as Stafford hit Massaquoi on a 29-yard touchdown pass and Moreno scored on a 6-yard run but the Wildcats answered with Tony Dixon scoring on a 3-yard run and Randall Cobb scoring on a 2-yard keeper and the score was tied 14-14. Georgia managed to grab the lead back before halftime when Stafford found Shaun Chapas on an 11-yard TD.

Kentucky battled back in the third quarter and after a 40-yard field goal from Lones Seiber and a 9-yard TD run from Cobb the Wildcats had their first lead of the game at 24-21. Moreno quickly put the Bulldogs back in front with a 20-yard touchdown run but the two teams would spend the remainder of the game trading leads.

Tony Dixon scored on 14-yard run in the opening minute of the fourth quarter to give Kentucky a 31-28 but once again the Bulldogs turned to Moreno who found the endzone from 18-yards out for a 35-31 advantage. Cobb scored his third touchdown of the game on a one-yard run and Kentucky’s 38-35 would hold until the final minutes of the game.

That’s when Stafford found A.J. Green on an 11-yard touchdown in the back of the endzone with 1:54 left on the clock. Kentucky had one last shot at catching the Dogs but in the final minute Cobb was picked off and Georgia survived.

Georgia will travel to Auburn next week while Kentucky hosts Vanderbilt.
