AP Top 25 College Football Scores: Iowa Hawkeyes Stun #3 Penn State in Big Ten Showdown, End Nittany Lions BCS Dreams

Shonn Greene rushed for 116 yards and a pair of touchdowns, Ricky Stanzi threw for 171 yards and a touchdown and Daniel Murray booted a 31-yard field goal with 6 seconds left in the game to give the Iowa Hawkeyes (6-4, 3-3) a stunning 24-23 victory over the #3 Penn State Nittany Lions (9-1, 5-1) to end their BCS national title hopes.

Greene put the Hawkeyes in the lead 7-0 in the first quarter on a 14-yard run but the Nittany Lions got a pair of field goals from Kevin Kelly and a 2-yard touchdown run from Evan Royster as Penn State carried a 13-7 advantage into the half.

Kelly put Penn State in front 16-7 early in the third quarter but the Hawkeyes found their offense and Stanzi hit Derrell Johnson-Koulianos on a 27-yard touchdown pass to cut Iowa’s deficit to 16-14. Penn State, determined to keep their national championship hopes alive, responded with a 9-yard touchdown run from Derrick Williams to pad the Nittany Lions lead to 23-14 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Hawkeyes cut the lead to 23-21 early in the fourth when Greene found the endzone from 6-yards out, setting up the dramatics that would come. Clinging to the two-point lead Penn State was driving against the Hawkeyes but Daryll Clark was picked off giving Iowa one more shot at the upset. Stanzi then led the Hawkeyes down the field hitting big play after big play until getting down to the Penn State 14-yard-line where Murray connected from 31-yards out to win the game.

Iowa will face Purdue next week while Penn State looks to bounce back against Indiana.
