Glenn Coffee rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown, Julio Jones had 127 yards receiving and John Parker Wilson threw for 214 yards and scored on a one-yard keeper in overtime to lift the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide (10-0, 6-0) past the #15 LSU Tigers (6-3, 3-3) to clinch a berth into the SEC championship game and keep their BCS national title hopes alive.
John Parker Wilson got the Crimson Tide on the board in the first quarter with a one-yard TD run but the Tigers responded with a pair of touchdowns as Jarrett Lee hit Demetrius Byrd on a 30-yard touchdown pass and Charles Scott scored on a 30-yard run to give LSU a 14-7 advantage heading into the second quarter.
It was the Tide’s defense that tied the score in the second quarter as Rashad Johnson picked off Lee and returned it 54 yards for the equalizer and the game was knotted at the break.
Alabama then took the lead in the third quarter when Coffee pounded it in from 3-yards out but in the fourth Scott brought the Tigers even with a one yard run with 6:12 on the clock. The Crimson Tide had a golden opportunity to win the game in regulation, driving down to the Tigers 12-yard-line but Leigh Tiffin’s field goal was blocked as time expired to force overtime.
In the extra frame the Tigers had the ball on the opening possession and Lee tossed his fourth interception of the game, giving the Tide the opportunity to win it. Alabama didn’t waste any time as John Parker Wilson hit Jones on the sideline to put the ball down on the one-yard line and Wilson scored on a keeper to win the game.
Alabama will now face Mississippi State next week while LSU takes on Troy.
