Body of Missing American Sailor Found in Gulf of Oman

The body of a female sailor who went missing on the USS Halsey this week was found Wednesday in the Gulf of Oman. The unidentified sailor was reported missing Tuesday after she failed to report for watch. A search of the ship was conducted before a man overboard was declared.

British forces assisted in the search and rescue mission. The body was found about 75 miles east of Fujarirah, United Arab Emirates. The Navy said the sailor’s death is under investigation. No other details were released.

The USS Halsey is a destroyer based in San Diego. It is currently deployed with the 5th Fleet to conduct “maritime security operations.”
