Drug smuggling pigeon stopped by cops

A drug-smuggling pigeon was captured outside a Colombian jail.

The criminal bird was discovered by two police officers a street away from Bucaramanga Prison as it struggled to fly into the correctional facility with 1.6 ounces of marijuana strapped to its back in a white paper package.

The poor pigeon couldn't stay in the air because of the extra weight.

General Jose Angel Mendoza, Commander of the Bucaramanga Metropolitan Police, said: "This is a new case of criminal ingenuity. They were trying to smuggle drugs into Bucaramanga Prison by using messenger pigeons.

"We found the bird about a block away from the prison trying to fly over with a package, but due to the excess weight it was impossible for the bird to accomplish the objective."

The bird is believed to have recovered from its' attempt at drug smuggling but it is not known who was behind the plot.
