Rwandan Official Arrested in Germany, Accused of Triggering 1994 Genocide

Rose Kabuye, the chief of protocol for Rwandan President Paul Kagame, was detained by German officials after arriving at the country’s Frankfurt airport.

Kabuye was arrested on a warrant issued by a French judge and she stands accused of taking part in the downing of former Rwandan President Juvenal Habyarimana’s plane, an act that sparked the 1994 genocide that left more than 800,000 Tutsi and moderate Hutus.

Considered one of Kagame’s closest aides, Kabuye was once a fighter in the Rwandan Patriotic Front.
