Glee up for GLAAD award

'Glee' has been nominated for a Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Award.

The US musical comedy show - which saw cast member Chris Colfer, who plays openly-gay Kurt Hummel, receive a Golden Globe award on Sunday (16.01.11) - will compete against 'Modern Family' 'Greek', 'Nurse Jackie' and 'United States of Tara' in the Outstanding Comedy Series category.

GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios said: "This year's nominees represent some of the images and stories at the root of the growing acceptance of our community and support for our equality. They also have created a benchmark for inclusion of our community that other media outlets should look to.

"As GLAAD celebrates 25 years of working with the media, we are proud to recognize this year's nominees, and we challenge the industry to share more stories that reflect the diversity of our community and the challenges that gay and transgender people face."

'The Kids are All Right' starring Julianne Moore and Annette Bening as a lesbian couple is up against 'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World', Sweden's 'The Girl Who Played With Fire', 'Easy A' and 'Burlesque' in the Outstanding Film - Wide Release category.

TV shows 'Brothers and Sisters', 'Grey's Anatomy and 'True Blood' received nods in the Outstanding Drama Series category, along with 'Pretty Little Liars' and 'Degrassi'.

The 22nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards, which honour movies, TV and pieces of music, journalism and theatre that include faithful representations of the LGBT community will take place in three cities over three nights, with New York on March 19, San Francisco on May 14 and in Los Angeles on a date yet to be confirmed.
