US Deports Mexican Singer Kalimba

Mexican Pop star Kalimba was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents Thursday in El Paso, Texas. Kalimba was taken into custody for an immigration violation and deported to Mexico. Authorities did not reveal any other details of his arrest.

A day before his arrest, a Mexican judge issued an arrest warrant for Kalimba on rape charges. The 28-year-old is accused of raping a 17-year-old girl at a hotel in the state of Quintana Roo on December 19. His agent, Gerard Michel, is wanted for contributing to the corruption of a minor. Kalimba has denied the allegations against him. If convicted, he faces up to 50 years in prison.

The singer, whose full name is Kalimba Kadjhali Marichal Ibar, was previously part of the pop group OV7. He launched his solo career in 2004.
