Kurt Warner was 32/42 passing for 328 yards and three touchdowns, Steve Breaston had seven catches for 121 yards and Anquan Boldin had 92 yards receiving and a pair of TDs as the Arizona Cardinals (6-3) used a last seconds defensive stand to hold off the San Francisco 49ers (2-7) 29-24 on Monday Night Football.
Things started bright for the 49ers as Allen Rossum took the opening kickoff 104 yards for a touchdown and a quick 7-0 lead. Arizona managed to cut their deficit to 7-3 with a Neil Rackers 28-yard field goal but the 49ers answered with a Shaun Hill 39-yard touchdown pass to Josh Morgan early in the second frame for a 14-3 advantage.
Warner answered for the Cardinals as he led Arizona down the field and hit Boldin on a 13-yard toss to pull to within 14-10 and then Rackers hit from 33-yards out to cut the deficit to 14-13 but Hill gave San Francisco some breathing room in the final minute of the half with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Vernon Davis to push the lead to 21-13.
Arizona quickly climbed back to within one in the third quarter when Warner found Larry Fitzgerald on a 5-yard touchdown but San Fran once again put points on the board as Joe Nedney connected from 41-yards out for a four-point cushion.
Rackers brought the Cardinals back to within one when his third field goal of the game was good from 23-yards out and Warner then gave Arizona their first lead of the game when he found Boldin on a 4-yard TD pass but their two-point conversion failed to leave their advantage at 29-24 with 4:16 left on the clock.
San Francisco drove down the field and looked to have a great opportunity to score but Hill was picked off on a shovel pass and Arizona took over with just over two minutes left in the game. The 49ers defense held and Hill had one more shot at getting San Fran into the endzone but with four seconds on the clock they went with a running play that the Cardinals stuffed and the clock hit zeroes.
