Egyptian Policemen Held Hostage by Bedouin Tribesmen Near Sinai Peninsula

At least 25 Egyptian policemen are being held hostage after Bedouin tribesmen forced a police vehicle to a stop in the Sinai Peninsula and ordered the officers out.

On Monday a Bedouin tribesman who was suspected of acting as a smuggler was shot and killed by police and Tuesday’s hostage taking near the Israeli border has been seen as an act of revenge by the Bedouin.

Egypt has long accused the Bedouin community of operating a smuggling ring that includes the trafficking of weapons into the Gaza Strip.
