Robert Michael Conrad, noted acting instructor has today announced two new, extensive workshops for actors, writers and public speakers. According to Conrad, “Working for the Camera” and “Cold Reading” enrollees will be working with scripts and scenes from television, commercials and films ‘on camera,’ with the possibility of becoming part of a new cable series, “The Actors Showplace.” The videotaped scenes will be included in demo reels the series with participants also considered for parts in a new movie that will be directed by producer, actor and director Tim Russ. Dawna Lee Heising and John Cox of “Eye on Entertainment” will be involved in “The Actors Showplace.” Heising is host and producer and Cox is co-producer and director of “Eye on Entertainment” long-running Cable TV Series.
Entrance to the new courses is by audition only. Auditions will be held on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 from 6:30 PM TO 7:30 pm. Interested persons are asked to bring a photo and resume as well as present a two-minute monologue from a film or play. Workshops will be held on Wednesday nights from 7 pm to 10 pm, with class sizes limited to 12 students. The fee per class will be a nominal $29. Conrad states that the classes are designed for students to develop confidence, preparation and how to shape their performances to fit each kind of shot. “Having an acting class run as a set and getting the chance to explore a character in depth gives students an edge in auditions, as well as footage for their demonstration reels,” he states. There will also be separate seminars, which will include actor Richard Hatch, star of “The Streets of San Francisco” and “Battlestar Galactica” on Friday, March 4, 2011 from 7 to 10 pm and SAG-franchised agent Pam Pahnke on Friday, March 11, 2011 from 7 to 10 pm. Robert Michael Conrad, whose career includes acting, producing and directing, is a graduate of the University of California, where he received an M.F.A. in Theater Arts. His positions have involved production work with Disney, Paramount Studios, Comcast, and Time Warner. He has produced and directed a variety of television and film projects in both single and multi-camera format. Conrad has also served as a professor in film studies for a variety of universities and colleges in Orange and Los Angeles counties. He is a member of The Directors Guild of America and The Screen Actors Guild. When not producing or teaching film, he is active directing plays throughout Orange County. Together with partner Jim Nestor, Conrad runs Bob and Jim Productions, where Nestor applies his broad engineering experience as technical supervisor and editor of many independent projects and stage manager of several plays in Orange County. Starting in 1997 with the cable television show The Heartbreak Café, Conrad and Nestor (Bob and Jim) have expanded their production capabilities to include several independent short films, developing opportunities directors and film students to have their work distributed to film festivals and viewed by other directors, producers, and agents. Tim Russ is a graduate of Rome Free Academy in Rome, New York. He attended Saint Edwards University, where he earned a B.S. in Theater Arts. He continued his studies with a full scholarship at Illinois State University.
