Walt Disney Company, the parent of ABC and ESPN, is the highest bidder to air the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) bowl games, according to reports Wednesday.
Disney is among five bidders for the BCS deal, but is offering $25 million more than Fox, the next highest competitor, according to USA Today and SportsBusiness Daily.
Fox's four-year deal with the BCS ends after the 2009 season. If Disney's bid for the new deal is accepted, then the BCS games and the national championship would be aired on ESPN starting in 2010, according to USA Today.
Disney is offering about $125 million annually to air the games, while Fox is offering about $100 million annually, according to SportsBusiness Daily.
Fox currently pays about $82.5 million annually to air four of the five BCS games: the Sugar, Orange, Fiesta and Capital One bowls. ABC currently has a separate deal to air the Rose Bowl. The deal with Disney would tie all five bowl games under the company's umbrella.
The 2009 BCS National Championship Game will be held at Dolphin Stadium in Miami, FL on January 8, 2009. Alabama and Texas Tech are currently ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the BCS rankings.
