A woman in New Zealand has been left partially paralysed by a love bite.
The 44-year-old female rushed to the emergency department of Middlemore Hospital in Auckland when she found she couldn't move her left arm after a particularly passionate smooch.
Doctors informed her she'd suffered a mild stroke when they noticed the telling mark near a major artery in her neck, left by her amorous lover a few day earlier.
The bite bruised inside the vessel of the artery, creating a clot which caused the stroke.
Teddy Wu, a doctor at the hospital, said: "We looked around the medical literature and that example of having a love bite causing something like that hasn't been described before."
