Dennis Tanner is to make a 'Coronation Street' comeback.
The original Weatherfield bad boy - played by 75-year-old actor Philip Lowrie - featured in the first-ever episode of the ITV1 soap as long-suffering Elsie Tanner's (Patricia Phoenix) tearaway son, and is now returning on a six-month contract.
However, his arrival on the cobbles could spell bad news for sensible Ken Barlow (Bill Roache), who was one of the con merchant's main sparring partners in the 60s.
Despite it being more than 40 years since he left the Street, the character still looks set to cause havoc among the residents of Weatherfield with his dodgy dealings, in particular his arch enemy Ken.
An insider told The Sun newspaper: "Dennis' return will throw the cat among the pigeons. Ken was always sparring with Dennis in the old days. They are still chalk and cheese.
"Dennis was involved in dodgy dealing, theft, fights and spent time in borstal. He was the bane of mum Elsie's life."
After spending time in prison for conning elderly people, Dennis eventually departed 'Corrie' in 1968, when he moved to Bristol with his wife.
