Truly Giving Thanks--Enjoy Thanksgiving at a Bed and Breakfast Inn

iLoveInns.com Welcomes the Holidays with Gratitude

The holiday season begins with the approach of Thanksgiving, which usually means a downhill gallop through New Year’s Eve. With all the consumerism and stress that surrounds the holidays it’s easy to forget the true significance of Thanksgiving: gratitude. Avoid the hassle of cleaning, cooking and entertaining this year. Pause, take time to relax, enjoy your family and make reservations at a bed and breakfast inn for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Invite friends and relatives to join you, and consider giving them a gift certificate for a night’s stay as an early Christmas gift. Welcome the holidays at these B&B inns, compiled by iLoveInns.com, which offer special promotions to make holiday travel affordable.

Historic Thanksgiving
Steep yourself in the re-creation of American history at Colonial Williamsburg, a reconstructed historic capitol completely populated by historians and actors in full period attire recreating 18th century daily life. Only two miles from this popular educational attraction, The Williamsburg Sampler Bed and Breakfast is itself a convincing replica of an 18th century plantation-style colonial inn. Stay two nights and get the third night free until the end of 2008.

At a true log cabin in the woods just one-half hour from St. Louis, innkeepers take full advantage of the ambiance of His Rest Bed and Breakfast. In period clothing, they serve a colonial candlelight dinner, “Foods of our Forefathers,” every Thursday in November (except Thanksgiving). Choose between the private cabin or upper room suite in the main cabin which comes with an authentic clawfoot tub. The wood-burning fireplaces and redwood hot tub on the back porch add to the coziness.

New England Thanksgiving
The Mountain Top Inn & Resort in Chittenden, Vermont (11 miles from Killington) offers an idyllic escape from city life. This traditional mountain lodge sits on 345 acres of high meadow hilltop and offers breathtaking views overlooking a lake. This inn has 30 rooms, including five pet-friendly mountain chalets, and is perfect for the outdoorsy family. Kids of all ages enjoy a horse-drawn sleigh ride, ice skating or sledding. The Thanksgiving Escape Package includes three nights’ lodging, country breakfast each morning, traditional Thanksgiving dinner and full privileges at the resort’s facilities.

Revel in the Victorian splendor of The Arlington Inn in Arlington, Vermont. This inn is decorated with beautiful antiques. Many of the guest rooms feature four-poster, canopy, or sleigh beds and clawfoot tubs. The inn also has a full-service tavern and extensive wine list. On Thanksgiving, decide between the Traditional Roasted Turkey, Roast Leg of Lamb and Grilled Sea Scallops and try the other entrees on a different night (like New England Lobster Pie). The Thanksgiving package includes two nights’ accommodation, Thanksgiving dinner, and a country breakfast each morning. The package price varies according to the room you select.

Affordable Thanksgiving
Innkeepers Layne and Peggy Frehner have special reason to celebrate this year; it’s their very first Thanksgiving at Inn at Rooster Hill. Located in Port Angeles Washington  on the Olympic Peninsula, this French country-style bed and breakfast is a perfect base to explore Olympic National Rainforest. The Frehners have pulled together an appealing Thanksgiving holiday package, which includes early check-in, a homemade feast with an organic turkey and locally grown produce and a day-after meal on Friday. If you can’t go for a proper hike, there’s always the exercise room and hot tub.

The Country Inn in the heart of Fort Bragg, California, is ideally located by redwood forest and Pacific Ocean, yet it remains affordable. During the week, a room can be had for $55! Their Thanksgiving package is equally reasonable: three nights with a home-cooked Thanksgiving meal and two tickets to the Mendocino Botanical Gardens for $340. Eat your fill, then walk to the Skunk Train and ride through the coastal redwoods or walk part (or all!) of the Ten Mile Coastal Trail. Rose gardens, hot tub, bountiful breakfasts and locally roasted organic coffee are more things to be grateful for.

The luxury boutique hotel, Beazley House, offers elegant lodgings even more affordable than usual: during the entire month of November, rooms in the Mansion are discounted 10% and rooms in the Carriage House are discounted 20% off the already low season rates, Sundays through Thursdays. After wine tasting, enjoy top-of-the-line amenities in every room, lush gardens and grounds. Jim and Carol Beazley will direct you to a fabulous local restaurant for your Thanksgiving Day meal.
