President Medvedev Calls For Punishment of Security Officials Following Attack

A day after a suicide bomber carried out a deadly at the Domodedovo Airport in Moscow, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called for the punishment of the airport’s security officials. President Medvedev said insufficient security is to blame for the attack, which claimed the lives of 35 people.

Thousands of people were at the airport when the bomb exploded around 4:30 p.m. The National Anti-Terrorist Committee reported 152 people were injured.

"What happened at Domodedovo shows the airport lacked security. It's unbelievable that such a huge amount of explosives were brought into the terminal. Those officials responsible for security at Domodedovo must be punished for their decisions. This is a terror attack, a grief, a tragedy,” said President Medvedev.

In recent years they have been many attacks on Russian trains and subways. The last attack involving Russian air transportation occurred in 2004 when two suicide bombers boarded two planes at Domodedovo and detonated their explosives mid flight. All 90 people aboard the planes were killed.
