The financial district of Manila, Philippines was placed on high alert Tuesday after a bomb exploded on a passenger bus in Makati City. The bus was near a Metro Rail Transit station when the bomb exploded around 1:50 p.m. local time. Police say 4 people died and 15 others were injured.
"It's a huge explosion; it's so huge that it created a hole at the side of bus where it is presumed that the bomb was placed," said Makati Police Chief Froilan Bonifacio.
Bonifacio said police are “still trying to determine what kind of bomb was used.” It appears the bomb was put under a seat.
In a press conference, President Benigno Aquino III said the “full force of the state will be used to investigate and capture the perpetrators.”
Vice President Jejomar C. Binay released a statement calling the attack a “deplorable and violent act.” “Such an act should not go unpunished,” he said.
