A soccer game in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico on Sunday turned deadly when a group of gunmen opened fire on the crowd and players gathered for the game. Police say about 180 rounds were shot, killing 7 people and wounding 2 others.
The dead included male soccer players and fans between the ages of 19 and 26. Three of them died at the scene while the others died en route to a hospital.
The soccer game was being held at a new community center that is part of a program which aims at putting a stop to violence associated with drug cartels. It is unclear if Sunday’s shooting was carried out by members of a cartel. The motive also remains unknown.
